JASMIN Phase1 core hardware installation
The installation at RAL of 4.6 Petabyes of storage, compute servers and associated racking and network infrastructure is a story in itself.
CEDA is very grateful to staff at STFC's Scientific Computing Division and to all involved who helped make the delivery, installation and commissioning run smoothly. Here's a taste of what was involved.
JASMIN takes shape
Machine room floor before installation. Equipment in the foreground is the unboxed 20 Dell servers and Equallogic arrays.
First 2 of 200 racks just unloaded off the lorry.
Foreground 6 racks plus 6 to the left out of shot are for JASMIN/CEMS. Gap after 3rd and 6th rack is for in-aisle cooling - needed due to large heat output. Foreground pallets have the 20 Dell servers and 2 Equallogic arrays used for Virtual Machine image storage.
First of two trucks arrives with the Panasas storage.
